Program Overview
Fadhili Cancer Support Organization (FCSO) recognizes palliative care as an essential component of comprehensive cancer care. In Kenya, many patients, especially those in marginalized and low-income communities, continue to face significant barriers in accessing quality, dignified, and culturally sensitive palliative services. FCSO is committed to closing these gaps by integrating palliative care into our core programs and strengthening community-based support systems that ensure no patient suffers in silence.
Our Palliative Care Focus
1. Community Awareness & Education
We conduct grassroots awareness campaigns to demystify palliative care, reduce stigma, and promote early enrollment into supportive services. Our sensitization sessions empower families with knowledge on symptom management, emotional support, and the rights of patients to comfort-focused care.
2. Psychosocial & Emotional Support
As a psychosocial support–driven organization, FCSO provides counseling, support groups, and caregiver training to help families cope with the emotional, social, and practical challenges of advanced illness. We champion compassionate communication, grief support, and patient dignity.
3. Home-Based Care Linkages
Through collaborations with county health facilities, palliative units, and community health promoters, FCSO helps coordinate home-based care for patients who cannot access institutional services. We support families with guidance and referrals to pain management, nutrition support, and comfort-enhancing interventions.
4. Advocacy for Equitable Palliative Services
FCSO engages in policy dialogue to push for stronger national palliative care frameworks, integration of palliative services in primary healthcare, and increased domestic financing for cancer supportive care. Our advocacy efforts focus on ensuring that vulnerable communities are not left behind.
5. Strengthening Healthcare Capacity
We partner with healthcare workers and facilities to enhance skills in patient-centered palliative approaches. This includes training sessions, knowledge-sharing forums, and collaboration with specialists in oncology, spiritual care, and mental health.
6. Resource Mobilization & Emergency Support
FCSO mobilizes resources to support families facing financial and emotional strain due to advanced illness. This includes facilitating access to essential supplies, transportation for clinical review, and emergency relief for vulnerable households.
FCSO Aim
Our goal is to ensure that individuals facing life-limiting cancer diagnoses receive compassionate support that honors their dignity and improves their quality of life. By embedding palliative care into our work, FCSO strengthens its role as a champion for equitable health access and holistic cancer support in Kenya.
