Our Story
Fadhili’s compassion ignites Kenya’s cancer care revolution.
In August 2018, we lost one of our founding members, Fadhili Ngare, to prostate cancer. His name, which means “Aid, Compassion, and Kindness” in Swahili, became the foundation for our mission. Fadhili’s vision was for our group to grow and positively impact more cancer patients, especially those in marginalized communities.
In May 2019, FCSO was officially registered under the NGO Coordination Board of Kenya as a not-for-profit organization focused on cancer awareness, cancer prevention, and research. Since then, we have worked relentlessly to improve access to cancer services for vulnerable populations, particularly through:
- Community mobilization and linking people to free cancer screenings, education and treatment.
- Providing health and nutrition education, distributing prosthetic aid, and offering financing support.
- Expanding our reach to multiple counties, including Busia, Machakos Nairobi, Meru, Nakuru, Kwale, Siaya, and Mombasa.
By 2025, FCSO will have reached over 1,697 women in reproductive age with training on breast self-examination to promote early diagnosis and treatment. In addition, Since May 2021, we have been conducting capacity-building programs in the informal settlements of Nairobi and Mombasa, trained over 570 Community Health Promoters and 35 nurses on early cervical cancer detection and increasing suspicion Index.
Our Compass: Mission, Vision & Values
To provide psychosocial support and advocate for the rights of cancer patients while promoting environmental and social justice. We empower marginalized communities in Kenya through education, awareness, cancer research, and prevention, fostering dignity, resilience, and hope for survivors, caregivers, and all affected by cancer.
A world where every individual, especially those affected by cancer, can access quality healthcare, live in a healthy environment, and enjoy their human rights without discrimination.
Compassion
We approach every individual with empathy, kindness, and a deep commitment to supporting cancer patients, survivors, and their families. We believe in the power of care and understanding to heal both the body and the spirit.
Empowerment
We empower cancer patients, caregivers, and marginalized communities with knowledge, resources, and support, enabling them to take control of their health and advocate for their rights.
Collaboration
We believe in the power of partnerships. By working closely with local communities, healthcare providers, and other organizations, we create lasting solutions and amplify our impact in cancer care, prevention, and advocacy.
Equity
We are committed to ensuring equal access to cancer care, education, and support for all individuals, regardless of their socio-economic background, gender, or location. We work tirelessly to reduce disparities in cancer outcomes, particularly in marginalized communities.
Innovation
We embrace creativity and continuous improvement. Whether through research, advocacy, or service delivery, we are dedicated to finding innovative solutions to improve cancer care and raise awareness.
Sustainability
We are committed to ensuring that our programs and initiatives have long-term, positive impacts. Through responsible management, environmental conservation, and community-driven solutions, we strive for lasting change in cancer care and support.
These principles aren’t just words – they’re the foundation of our 40+ free screenings, 20,000+ HPV vaccinations, and 11 survivor support groups across Kenya. Through compassion in action, we turn vision into measurable change for marginalized communities.
